What is a Business Mileage Log?
A Business Mileage Log is a record of every business journey you make by car or van, used to claim tax relief on vehicle expenses at HMRC-approved rates. For 2024/25, that is 45p per mile for the first 10,000 miles and 25p per mile thereafter. Without a proper log, you cannot claim — and you are leaving money on the road.
Common use cases:
- Recording business journeys to claim mileage expenses on your tax return
- Reclaiming mileage costs from your employer or limited company
- Tracking total business miles for vehicle expense claims
- Supporting mileage claims if HMRC asks for evidence
- Comparing mileage claims against actual vehicle costs to choose the best method

- You use your personal vehicle for business travel and want to claim tax relief
- You are a sole trader, freelancer, or limited company director with business mileage
- You need to provide mileage records to your employer for reimbursement

HMRC-Compliant Evidence
If HMRC checks your tax return, they will ask for mileage records. This template produces exactly what they want — dates, destinations, purposes, and calculated claims.
